Could you help build Everton’s new Stadium?
While professional footballers transfer from club to club in January, Everton are looking forward to playing in a new stadium as early as 2024. We look at the apprenticeships that will help build Liverpool’s next iconic sporting stadium.
In July, construction company Laing O’Rourke began work on Everton’s new 52,000 seat football stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock on the city’s waterfront. The water, which was once in place in the dock itself, has now been completely replaced by sand. The first section of the concrete super-structure has also been erected. Giant pre-cast concrete panels and pillars were installed just prior to the enabling and construction works breaking for Christmas. They are the first structural elements of the North West core, which will incorporate the entrance turnstiles to the North Stand and create support for the entry and exit stairs up to the concourse areas.
Bramley-Moore Dock’s location within Liverpool’s Unesco World Heritage Site and the Stanley Dock Conservation Area has been fundamental to how the project has been designed and planned. It respects and preserves the area’s heritage, while bringing a long-standing semi-derelict dockland site back into use. Laing O’Rourke Director of UK Building, Paul McNerney, said: “We will harness our digital-engineering expertise, experience of delivering sports stadia and sector-leading manufacturing capabilities, using products made at our two UK factories, to create a world-class stadium for Everton and their fans.”
So, how might you get involved in this project? Laing O’Rourke have a professional apprenticeship programme and they are recruiting now for a September 2022 start. Their programme provides a fully funded day or block release Level 4 (HNC) and/or Level 6 (degree) apprenticeship in your chosen vocation, while working as a full time Laing O’Rourke employee. It will also include a series of bespoke development modules, and technical training opportunities, strategically placed to support you at key stages of your apprenticeship journey. During the programme you will work across a range of projects, which will offer the breadth and variety to support your occupational competency and will contribute towards the achievement of your apprenticeship and professional accreditation.
There are apprenticeship opportunities across the Country with Laing O’Rourke, several are based across the Liverpool City Region.
