APPRENTICESHIP STATISTICS 2018/2019

Looking specifically at the August 2018 to April 2019 period, there were 43,120 starts in the North West compared to 41,170 for the same period last year. This represents an increase of 4%. All regions in the country bar two saw an increase in Apprenticeship starts.

Breaking down these August 2018 to April 2019 figures further, we note that under 19 starts are down by 3% on the same period last year, 19 to 24 starts are down by 1%, and 25 plus starts are up by 5%.

Other points of note include:

• Intermediate level starts between August 2018 and April 2019 decreased by 5% when compared with the same period last year. There was no change in advanced starts and a 5% increase in higher-level starts
• Looking at this same August 18 to April 19 period, there was no change in starts from black and minority ethnic groups compared with last year’s figures
• There was no change in the number of female starts which stands at 51% for this year as last year
• There was a 1% increase in LLDD starts for the August 18 to April 19 period when compared with the same period last year

Focussing in on Liverpool City Region statistics, we are pleased to report that Halton, Knowsley and Liverpool saw significant increases in Apprenticeship starts in the August 18 to April 19 period when compared with the same period last year. Starts details for this period for each LCR local authority area are as follows:

• Halton had 660 starts, an increase of 140
• Knowsley had 1050 starts, an increase of 300
• Liverpool had 3030 starts, an increase of 360
• Sefton had 1080 starts, a decrease of 50
• St Helens had 840 starts, a decrease of 50
• Wirral had 1500 starts, change of 130
