Liverpool Christmas events have more than one thing in common

Various festive family activities, club nights, shows and shopping experiences are underway across the Liverpool City Region. The Liverpool City Market has returned with over 40 stalls and festive rides. Liverpool One has been lit up for Christmas with giant crackers and festive belles greeting shoppers. The Luminate light trail makes for a magical evening walk, while Liverpool’s Unity Theatre will be hosting ‘Outside The Igloo’, an interactive adventure for all the family, particularly if you love penguins. If you’re looking for a cosy festive village then head for the rooftop of Bar Liberty. You can even hire a lodge and stay the night. Meanwhile, Liverpool Ice Festival offers to transport you into a frozen winter wonderland.

While you are enjoying all these wonderful Christmas events you might stop for a while and think about how they came about. Behind every great event is a great event manager. If you are interested in helping make events like these happen then there’s apprenticeship opportunities you should consider. An apprenticeship gives you first-hand experience combined with a qualification. Apprenticeships have a standard that you, your employer and training provider work to. This gives you the qualifications and skill base to thrive at your profession.

Most Event Managers begin their career as an Event Assistant. They work within a team of people either in an events organising company or the event’s department of a large organisation.  You’re most likely to be working with Event Planners or Project Managers helping them plan, organise and deliver an event. This could be searching for the right location and venue for the event through to working with a design team on the look and feel of the event. You may find yourself organising logistics like transportation and catering. Events cover a broad range of activities.  They might be outdoor events, music festivals, sporting or cultural events. Business events include conferences, meetings, trade shows and exhibitions.

So what do you need before you can begin to explore an Event Assistant apprenticeship? While individual employers will set their own selection criteria, you will need Level 2 Maths and English as a minimum. Then it’s about having the right attitude, passion, stamina and commitment to learning. Previous experience is not needed. You’ll succeed if you are a flexible, calm and proactive individual with energy, enthusiasm, good communication skills, patience and an ability to empathise.
