Apprenticeship Support by Be-More: this month’s activity
Sefton/Knowsley
This month, the Be More team participated in the annual careers fair at Hillside High school in Bootle, providing information to students across a range of academic year groups. LCR Apprenticeship Ambassador The Sovini Group came along to tell pupils about Apprenticeship career opportunities in their organisation and how to apply.
At Deyes High Sixth Form in Maghull, the team carried out mock interviews with year 13 students. LCR Apprenticeship Ambassador First Ark Group helped with the interviews and also participated in a networking session with the students.
At Maricourt High School, also in Maghull, we met year 11 students at Maricort High School at an Apprenticeship information session. Apprenticeship Ambassadors from The Sovini Group, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and EFT Group also came along, providing students with an insight into the Apprenticeship roles available in their organisations, from both an employer and an apprentices perspective.
The team attended an options evening at Lord Derby Academy, Huyton to provide information to students and parents or guardians about Apprenticeships as a next step post year 11 and beyond.
Apprenticeship information sessions were held at Kirkby and Huyton Jobcentres, informing JCP customers about the latest vacancies and explaining how to apply.
Wirral/Halton
The Be-More team delivered Apprenticeship presentations to different year groups at Bebington High and Ormiston Chadwick school, and participated in The Bridge School, Halton careers day, alongside other employers and providers including the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Aldi and the Police.
The team were pleased to meet job seekers at Widnes Jobcentre Job Fair, and are currently looking into helping several of them move into Apprenticeship vacancies.
Liverpool/St Helens
Apprenticeship Support by Be More sponsored the 5th Annual Liverpool Visitor Economy Week. Originally launched in 2015, in collaboration with Growth Platform, the FE colleges and skills providers across the City Region, Visitor Economy Week aims to raise the profile of the sector and apprenticeships within it, and enhance its perception as a progressive career choice. It also aims to ensure skills development sits at the forefront of improving the competitiveness and quality of the sector.

As part of National Apprenticeship Week 2020, the team provided advice to West Derby Jobcentre customers on accessing apprenticeships. We also offered Apprenticeship advice and support to Calderstones School 6th Form, Torus Housing residents at FireFit in Toxteth, and St Hilda’s High School year 13 pupils.
The team participated in careers fairs at Gateacre High School, Alsop High School and Cardinal Heenan. Liverpool City Region Ambassadors from Riverside Housing helped carry out mock interviews for year 11 pupils at Cardinal Heenan. One Ambassador commented:
“It was a pleasure to support this careers event. Myself and one of our apprentices attended. We interviewed five students in total, and I found it beneficial for the apprentice’s development – giving him the chance to work on his communication and listening skills. The students we spoke to seemed engaged and found the exercise useful.”
Apprenticeship Support at Be More also worked with individual residents both in schools and referred through our partners. In particular, we helped with CV advice, where to look for Apprenticeship vacancies, and how to apply for a vacancy.
The Liverpool City Region Ambassador network is continuing to grow. In detail, this month, we welcomed Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Riverside Housing, and Crown Commercial Service to the network with more organisations in the pipeline. These Ambassadors offer invaluable support to Schools, residents and other Liverpool City Region employers with Apprenticeship information.
