Role & responsibilities

  • Contributes to risk assessments and safe working practices
  • Complies with all safety policies and procedures whilst actively participating in the efforts to create and maintain a zero harm work place culture
  • Challenges non-compliant employees on safety policies and procedures. Reports to senior management if necessary
  • Attends safety training courses as required
  • Liaises with relevant departments as required
  • Actively participates in cross function projects to ensure that goals are achieved and solutions implemented
  • Actively seeks out and identifies Continuous Improvement Opportunities

Training will include:

  • Wiring and testing electrical equipment and circuits
  • Maintaining mechanical devices and equipment
  • Electro, pneumatic and hydraulic systems and devices
  • Producing engineering project plans
  • Using computer software packages to assist with engineering activities
  • Hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Programmable logic controllers (PLCs)

You will study on a Level 3 Engineering Fitter standard. On completion of this, you will gain a Level 3 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering qualification.

During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis. After this, you will attend the Training Centre for one day a week for knowledge study.

Completion of the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre apprenticeships are nationally recognised qualifications which are acknowledged and respected by employers across the world. These can open the door to many more opportunities, such as Engineering Management and Project Engineering positions across a range of sectors worldwide.
